Advent Pockets Calendar
Crochet an Advent calendar wall hanging: a snowy night village with rows of little houses and 24 numbered pockets (or a mini version with 12), each pocket a charted red or green square with its number in cream. Two sizes, Full 24 pockets (about 20 x 32 in flat, 30.5 in once the rod pocket is folded) and Mini 12 pockets (about 20 x 18 in flat, 16.4 in folded), hung from a dowel. The finished-item picture is an illustration; colours are approximate. Charted motifs are built from whole stitches, so a made piece looks blockier and simpler than the picture. The picture shows the Full 24-pocket hanging.
Materials: DK weight cotton (category 3) in A Navy, B Snow, C Red, D Gold, E Green and F Brown; 3.5 mm hook or size to match gauge; yarn needle; scissors; a 22 in dowel or stick and a length of cord to hang it. Yarn amounts are estimates: weigh your swatch.
Hang the calendar out of reach of babies and small children. Fill the pockets with small treats, notes or tokens that are safe for the child who will open them.
