What changed
StitchWing 1.0.2
This update brings a new Home screen, new ways to shade and repair your artwork, more clip art, new garments in the pattern maker, a redesigned Print / Export window and many smaller fixes. Your charts, saved patterns and purchases carry over unchanged.
A new Home screen
- Home now asks "What are you making?" with picture tiles: a large From a photo card, then Crochet, Knit, Cross stitch, Blank grid and Portrait. Pattern maker is there too when your plan includes it.
- Your most recent charts are in one row at the bottom. Press See all patterns for the full list.
- Portrait opens Portrait Studio, which comes with All Access. On other plans it shows a lock and an upgrade offer.
Enhance: shadows and highlights
- Select flat artwork, such as your drawing, clip art or a placed graphic, then press Enhance in the side panel.
- Compare Before and After, adjust the light, shadow, shine and roundness, and choose how many new yarn colors to add.
- Press Apply to chart to keep it. One Undo puts it back.
- Enhance comes with All Access. On other plans it shows a lock and an upgrade offer.
Close lines: repair breaks in outlines
- Choose Tools › Close lines… or Chart › Close lines…, or select part of your chart and choose Close lines… in the side panel or right-click menu.
- It joins small gaps of one or two squares without making the chart bigger or adding colors. Check the marked changes, then press Apply or Leave it. One Undo puts it back.
- For cross stitch you can outline with backstitch instead, keeping your crosses as they are.
Clip art
- There is a Clip art button on the tool rail.
- There are many more clip art pictures, including Baby and Flowers.
- Choose Import your own… to bring in your own picture. SVG pictures sized in millimetres or inches come in at the right size.
- If a clip art picture or a download can't finish, StitchWing tells you clearly what happened and what to do.
Pictures and colors
- Charts made from small drawings keep thin dark outlines more reliably, and Line drawing joins small breaks more consistently.
- Choose Hex or RGB wherever you type a color value. Your choice is remembered, and you can also set it in Settings › Editing › Color values.
- The cleanup tool is now called Tidy rows and colors, in the Chart section of the side panel. Choose Gentle, Medium or Strong and check the preview first.
Working on your chart
- A zoom slider lets you drag straight to the size you want.
- Drawing on very large charts in Advanced mode is faster.
- Notices about a file's notes, or about squares too small to draw in, sit in a row under the chart instead of covering it.
Pattern maker
- New garments: Dress, Overalls, Skirts and the Zip-Up Hood Hoodie.
- Every garment chart now shows the finished item the way it is worn. On a hat, the crown is at the top. Text you draw upright stays upright on the finished piece.
- The garment list now shows a large preview of the garment you choose, and the finished-garment previews look better.
- The finished size is shown correctly for pieces worked sideways.
- In small sizes of pants, the rows that join the cuff are correct.
- A garment saved with settings outside the usual range opens safely.
- Garments are bought inside the pattern maker. One press of Buy starts one purchase.
- The gauge step is laid out more clearly, and varsity jacket collars, waistbands, sleeves, cuffs and pocket openings are more accurate.
- Exporting every size makes one combined pattern, like a published multi-size pattern: one sizing page, one chart per piece with every size's outline, and rows written once with each size's numbers in parentheses. Just my size still prints one size on its own.
Print and Export
- Print / Export is redesigned, with a large preview of your page and a short panel beside it.
- What to export lets you pick Graph (chart), Written pattern or Graph + written pattern. The rest of the choices are under More options & styling.
- Big garments no longer freeze the window while they are prepared. You see the progress and can choose Cancel.
- A print that would run past 60 pages shows a short warning with Save PDF instead.
- Cross stitch charts printed with Fill the page use slightly smaller squares, so the centre arrows sit outside the numbers.
Saving
- The first time you save a new chart, StitchWing asks you to name it. Choose Cancel and nothing is saved.
Menus
- Menus show just each item's name and its shortcut, so they are narrower. An item you can't use right now is greyed out.
- Shortcuts behave the same way on Windows and Mac, the Edit menu acts on the text box you are typing in, and Escape closes a drop-down without closing the window behind it.
Your plan
- Own It now includes the photo tools: Remove something, Line drawing, Sharpen small artwork, selecting by a thing, and reading the key names from a chart photo.
Fixed
- Buy works every time. A checkout left open in another window no longer stops you buying something else, and you can cancel it from StitchWing.
- Your templates buttons and labels are clearer, and a button you can't use yet says why.
- When you choose a template, its window closes and your chart opens in front.
- Closing a pattern maker tab with Don't save no longer closes StitchWing.
- On smaller windows, the layout no longer gets squeezed when the finished-garment panel is open, and the color strip fits at the smallest window size.
- Portrait Studio's colors fit in a small window.
Good to know
- To update, choose Install now when StitchWing tells you 1.0.2 is ready, or download it from stitchwing.com.
- Keep checking your chart and yarn colors before you start stitching. Colors on a screen are approximate.
- If something looks wrong, choose Help › Send feedback.
