Pennant Name Banner

Spell a name, a nickname or a welcome in crocheted pennant flags. Every letter from A to Z is charted and written out row by row, and a blank flag in each size is yours to fill with a heart, a star or a number of your own.

Choose a flag size: Small is 3.5 inches wide, Classic 5.25 inches and Large 7 inches. Each flag is worked from the point up in single crochet, in two colours, with the letter worked into the flag as you go, so no letter is sewn on. A sleeve at the top slides onto a rod or hanger of your own.

You get a StitchWing chart file and a printable PDF for each size, with all 26 letters and the blank flag, written rows with a stitch count on every row, a size guide and a banner length guide for names of three to ten letters. Make one flag for each letter in the name; a repeated letter needs a flag each time.

Soft DK yarn in two colours and a 4.5 mm hook are a good place to start; match the gauge on your swatch. Single crochet, edge increases, carrying a second colour inside your stitches and one sewn seam are all the skills it uses.

Made as nursery decor for a wall or as a baby shower gift. It is decoration only: hang it high on a wall, away from any crib or bed. The hanger is not included.

Hanging decor: Hang high on a wall, out of reach of children and away from cribs and beds, from a firmly fixed hook. The cord or hanger is yours to supply: keep it short and never let a loop hang low.

Decor only: This is for decoration. Do not put it in a crib, bed, play yard or car seat, and do not give it to a baby or child to play with.

Yarn and care: Use soft, smooth, washable yarn that does not shed or fuzz, and wash a swatch first. Weave in every end and check inside the finished item for loose strands, which can wrap around a baby's fingers or toes. Wash inside out.
