Car Seat Canopy

A small crochet drape for an infant carrier. It lies over the raised carry handle with a charted picture across the top panel, and four small tabs with two snaps hold it on the handle bar. Start with the soft rainbow, or chart your own picture or a name on the 92 x 42 stitch panel. One size, about 24 x 20 in, for carriers about 17 to 18 in across at the handle; measure yours first, and the pattern shows how to resize. The finished-canopy picture is an illustration.
You'll need:
- Smooth DK cotton in oat, sage, blush, butter and sky
- A 4 mm hook, or the size that gives gauge, a yarn needle and colour bobbins
- Two pressed (no-sew) snap sets made for baby clothes, and the tool that sets them
Important Safety Notes
Car seat canopy: Use it only over the top of the carrier, with the handle in its carrying position. Never put it between the baby and the seat, and never under or touching the harness straps. Take it off before the vehicle moves: seat makers do not approve add-on products, so read your seat's manual first. Use it for short outdoor walks. Keep the sides open, keep air flowing and keep the baby's face in view. Covers can trap heat, so check the baby often. Never leave a baby asleep or alone under it. It is not a blanket: keep it out of the crib and play yard. Do not hang strings or toys on or over the carrier.
Snaps, not buttons: Close this item with pressed (no-sew) snaps made for baby clothes, set with the tool made for them. Do not use buttons. Before every wear, tug each snap firmly in every direction; if one loosens, stop using the item.
No cords or ties: This item has no cords, ties, ribbons or drawstrings anywhere, especially at the neck, hood, face or waist. Do not add any.
Yarn and care: Use soft, smooth, washable yarn that does not shed or fuzz, and wash a swatch first. Weave in every end and check inside the finished item for loose strands, which can wrap around a baby's fingers or toes. Wash inside out.
If you sell what you make: Children's products sold in the US must meet CPSC rules, including testing, a Children's Product Certificate and a tracking label. Start at cpsc.gov.
