Diaper Caddy

Make a crochet caddy for diapers, wipes and changing supplies. It is worked in tight single crochet as flat panels, a base, four sides and two short grab handles, that you join with slip-stitch seams so the corners stay crisp. Each side has a charted area that starts as cream diamonds on sage, with clay trim; keep it or draw your own design, a name or an initial. Choose Standard or Mini. Each comes as an editable chart and a printable PDF with a written row for every row.
You'll need:
- Worsted-weight cotton in three colors: sage, cream and clay
- A crochet hook, about 4.0 mm (change it to match your gauge), a yarn needle and scissors
Sizes:
- Standard: about 12 x 7 in (30 x 18 cm) across the base and 7 in (18 cm) tall, base 48 stitches by 28 rows.
- Mini: about 9 x 6 in (23 x 15 cm) across the base and 6 in (15 cm) tall, base 36 stitches by 24 rows.
Both are worked in single crochet (US; UK double crochet) and sewn together; the handles are sewn on the inside. Make a gauge swatch first. Yarn amounts: weigh your swatch to estimate; amounts vary with tension.
Difficulty: Intermediate (you carry a second color inside the stitches and join panels). Craft: Crochet. Tags: baby, nursery, diaper caddy, basket, storage, shower gift, tapestry crochet. Colors are approximate.
Important Safety Notes
Storage: This is for storage and is not a toy. Keep it out of the crib, and never put a baby in it.
Handles and seams: Check the handles and seams before every lift, do not overfill, and stop using the caddy if a stitch or seam comes loose.
Yarn and care: Use soft, smooth, washable yarn that does not shed or fuzz, and wash a swatch first. Weave in every end and check inside the finished item for loose strands, which can wrap around a baby's fingers or toes. Wash inside out.
If you sell what you make: Children's products sold in the US must meet CPSC rules, including testing, a Children's Product Certificate and a tracking label. Start at cpsc.gov.
