Little Elf Holiday Set

Crochet a short-point elf hat, two thumbless mittens and two soft booties in Cranberry, Forest green and Cream. Hat and mitten stripes are three rounds each, A then B then C, starting with A at the closed tip. The hat has a solid Cranberry folded brim; all cuffs are solid Cranberry sideways BLO-sc rib. Booties have solid A soles, two-round A/B/C wall bands, a Cream instep matching the top wall band, and opening rounds continuing the wall stripe counter. Six measurement-led sizes include all five items. The finished-item picture is an illustration. The picture shows the Newborn size set: one hat, two thumbless mittens and two booties. Other sizes use the same stripe order with more rounds. Bootie cuff ribbing in the picture is approximate. Use the hat for supervised outdoor outings, never sleep.
Materials:
- Soft, smooth, non-shedding, washable superwash merino sport yarn (CYC 2), A Cranberry, B Forest green, C Cream. Check skin comfort and colourfastness.
- 3.75 mm hook or size to match 18 sc x 20 rows per 4.00 in; separate rib gauge 18 sc x 25 rows per 4.00 in.
- Removable stitch markers, yarn needle, scissors, ruler and scales. Remove all markers and tools before wear.
- No hardware, elastic or attached decorations. Per-colour yarn estimates are included in each size.
Important Safety Notes
Hats: Hats are for outdoors and for moments when an adult is watching. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises against hats on babies indoors once home from the hospital, and never for sleep.
No cords or ties: This item has no cords, ties, ribbons or drawstrings anywhere, especially at the neck, hood, face or waist. Do not add any.
Nothing dangling: Do not add pompoms, tassels, fringe, ribbons or bows.
Mittens and booties: Never join mittens with a cord or string. Cuffs and ankles must never be tight. Before each wear, turn mittens and booties inside out and check for loose threads or hair, which can wrap tightly around a finger or toe.
Close the fingertip: Close the tip of every mitten completely. A finger can slip into a hole in a mitten and cut off the blood flow to the fingertip, so look for holes and worn spots before every wear and stop using a mitten at the first one.
No small parts: Do not add buttons, beads, plastic eyes, charms or bells. Make faces and details in embroidery stitched through the fabric, and tug them firmly before use.
Everyday wear: Made as everyday clothing, not sleepwear. Children's sleepwear has separate flammability rules (16 CFR 1615 and 1616).
Not for the sleep area: Keep this out of the crib, bassinet and play yard with a baby under 12 months, and do not use it for sleep. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises a "firm, flat sleep surface" and a "fitted sheet only", with nothing else in the crib.
Yarn and care: Use soft, smooth, washable yarn that does not shed or fuzz, and wash a swatch first. Weave in every end and check inside the finished item for loose strands, which can wrap around a baby's fingers or toes. Wash inside out.
Close stitches: Work a firm, closely stitched fabric. Gaps and lacy openings can catch small fingers and toes.
If you sell what you make: Children's products sold in the US must meet CPSC rules, including testing, a Children's Product Certificate and a tracking label. Start at cpsc.gov.
