Tacky Lights Banner

Tacky Lights Banner finished item, front view; source picture, illustration.
Front · Digital preview

Crochet a garland of fat old-fashioned Christmas lights in bright red, green, gold, blue and orange, each bulb a shaped single-crochet pennant hung from a looping wire cord. Two lengths: a 6 ft garland with 10 bulbs and a 9 ft garland with 15 bulbs. The finished-item picture is an illustration; colours are approximate. Charted motifs are built from whole stitches, so a made piece looks blockier and simpler than the picture. The picture shows the 6 ft garland with 10 bulbs.

Materials: DK weight cotton (category 3) in A Red, B Green, C Gold, D Blue, E Orange and F Charcoal; 3.5 mm hook or size to match gauge; yarn needle; scissors; ruler; about 96 in (6 ft garland) or 129 in (9 ft garland) of plain cord, ribbon or twill tape for the wire. Yarn amounts are estimates: weigh your swatch.

The bulbs are crochet only: there are no real lights, bulbs or batteries. Hang the garland out of reach of babies, small children and pets, and keep it away from heaters and open flames.
