Proposed update, not in effect yet. Until then the current version applies.
These are the terms for using stitchwing.com and your StitchWing account, and for buying StitchWing. How you may use the software itself is covered by the License agreement. What we do with your information is covered by Privacy.
Oversized imports from other programs. On Free, an imported chart bigger than the Free chart-size limit opens to view only: no editing, printing, exporting, sharing or copying. Saving that import as a .stitchwing file does not remove the restriction. Charts made in StitchWing still open, display and print, even above the Free size limit, with no account, license or internet connection. The current Free limits are shown on the pricing page and in the app; no limit is set by this paragraph.
Your patterns remain yours. This exception does not restrict your ownership or use of your patterns outside StitchWing. The file-opening and printing statements below refer to charts made in StitchWing; oversized imports have the view-only exception above.
The short version
- StitchWing for Windows and Mac is on pre-order. One purchase works on either, at the same price; PCs and Macs count together toward your plan’s computer limit. You pay when you order. Your plan starts when you can actually use it. Cancel any time before release for a full refund. If it isn't out within 30 days of your order, we'll ask whether you want to keep waiting, and we refund you unless you tell us to wait.
- The free version needs no account and no card. An account is only for buying, for using a license on more than one computer, and for selling in the store.
- Files never lock. A pattern made in StitchWing already on your computer opens and prints with no account, no license and no internet. Nothing in these terms changes that.
- Your patterns are yours. Sell them, teach from them, publish them. You owe us nothing and you don't have to credit us — on every plan, including free.
- Cancel any time, online, in one step. No phone call, no retention maze.
- Pre-orders: cancel from your account any time before release for a full refund. After release, the pre-order payment is non-refundable. Gifts have the separate refund rules under Gifts below. Anything else: 30 days to change your mind on anything bought once or yearly; 7 days on a monthly charge.
1. Pre-orders
StitchWing for Windows and Mac is on pre-order for the final 1.0 release; release-candidate downloads are available now. One purchase works on either, at the same price, and PCs and Macs count together toward your plan’s computer limit. We don't give a final release date. You can pre-order it now, and we'll email you the day it's out.
You pay when you order. The full price of what you choose is charged at checkout.
Nothing starts until you can use it. Your StitchWing starts the first time you sign in to the app after release. If you haven't signed in by 30 days after release, it starts then. We call that your start date, and everything that counts days counts from it:
- A Yearly plan runs for a year from your start date, and a Monthly plan for a month. Your first renewal is a year (or a month) after your start date, not after the day you paid.
- An Own It license includes every feature in StitchWing on release day.
Before release, cancel and get everything back. Press Cancel pre-order on your account page, or email support@stitchwing.com. We refund the full amount, tax included, to the card you paid with within 7 days. Your bank decides when it shows.
After release, a pre-order is non-refundable. Release, for your order, is when we email you that StitchWing is out and your license appears on your account page. From then on, the payment for your pre-order can't be refunded, whether or not you've downloaded StitchWing or signed in. Your plan still starts on your start date, not on release day, and you can cancel its renewal at any time (see "Subscriptions").
This replaces the refund windows under "Refunds" for the pre-order payment only. It doesn't change: the promise below if StitchWing isn't out within 30 days of your order; "It won't run on my computer" under "Refunds"; or your rights under the law where you live.
This applies to pre-orders placed from 23 September 2026. A pre-order placed before then keeps the refund window it was sold with: 30 days (7 on Monthly) from your start date.
If StitchWing isn't out within 30 days of your order, we email you before those 30 days are up. The email tells you how many more weeks we now expect it to take, and asks you to choose:
- Keep waiting. Your order stays in place, and you can still cancel for a full refund at any time before release.
- Get a full refund. One click, and it's back on your card within 7 days.
If you don't tell us to keep waiting by the date in that email, and StitchWing still isn't out, we cancel your order and refund you in full. If StitchWing comes out before that date, your order goes through as normal. If we miss the new estimate as well, we ask you again, and again we refund you unless you tell us to keep waiting.
On release day your license key arrives by email and appears on your account page, and the download opens.
2. Who we are
You're dealing with Lite Work Designs LLC, 14502 Greenview Dr Ste 500 #1159, Laurel, MD 20708, United States. Email us at support@stitchwing.com.
Everywhere below that says "we" or "us" means that company, and that address is the one to write to if you'd rather use post.
3. Your account
You don't need an account to use the free version. An account is for buying, for using your license on more than one computer, and for selling in the store. If you make one, here's the whole of it:
- You give an email address and choose a password, typed twice so a slip doesn't lock you out.
- We email you a six-digit code.
- You type the code. That's the account confirmed and you're in.
No credit card is needed for the free version. We ask for an email address, not for payment.
You confirm the address before you can sign in. The code screen can resend it, let you start again with a different address, and tells you how long the code lasts. While you're waiting you can keep using the free version, and you can always open and print any pattern made in StitchWing you already have.
Some housekeeping about accounts:
- Keep your password to yourself. Anyone who has it can use your license.
- One account per person. Don't create accounts for other people or with an address you don't control.
- You must be 18 or over to buy a plan. A teenager may use the free version, or use a plan through an account a parent or guardian set up and looks after.
- Changing or resetting your password signs every computer out, including the one you're using. That's on purpose — it's what makes a stolen password fixable.
- We may suspend or close an account for fraud, chargebacks made in bad faith, sharing a license key, or trying to get around seat limits. Where the problem can be put right, we'll email you first and give you 14 days to put it right before we do anything.
- You can close your account at any time by emailing support@stitchwing.com. Privacy, under "Your choices", sets out exactly what happens.
4. What the free version is
The Windows and Mac free version is free with no end date and no card. There is no desktop free trial. What it includes — how many patterns you can save, how large a chart can be, and which features are in it — is shown on the pricing page, and StitchWing tells you at the moment you hit a limit rather than letting it look like a bug.
Two things the free version never does: it never stops you opening, viewing or printing a chart made in StitchWing you already have, and it never touches your files.
5. Buying StitchWing means buying a license
When you buy StitchWing, you're buying a license to use the software, not ownership of it. Your license can end in a few specific situations — if you're refunded, or if a payment is charged back. Your patterns are always yours and are never affected. The full terms are in the License agreement.
6. Prices and tax
- You pay the price shown on the pricing page and at checkout at the moment you buy. Prices are in US dollars.
- Any sales tax is worked out and added at checkout. The total, tax included, is shown before you pay.
- If a price is obviously wrong because of a mistake on our side, we may cancel the order and refund you in full.
7. When prices or plans change
We can change prices, what a plan includes, and plan limits — but only for future purchases. For anything you've already bought:
- A one-time ("Own It") license and any template you've bought keep the terms they had when you bought them. A later price rise never costs you more. A later change never shrinks the features you own, the number of computers you're allowed, or the templates you've paid for.
- Subscriptions: a new price only applies to you after we've emailed you about it in advance — see "Subscriptions" below — and you can cancel before it takes effect. We never reduce what your plan includes during a period you've already paid for.
- A discount applies only as shown at checkout for that order.
- The free version can change for everyone. If a free limit comes down, every chart made in StitchWing you already have still opens, displays and prints.
We keep a record of the price and terms you were shown for every order.
8. Subscriptions
Your Monthly or Yearly plan renews automatically until you cancel. Prepaid gifts are the exception: see Gifts below. The exact amount, how often you'll be charged, and when you'll be charged are shown next to the Subscribe button, again in checkout, and again in your confirmation email. If you pre-order a plan, your first year (or month) is charged when you order. The plan starts on your start date (see "Pre-orders") and renews automatically a year (or a month) after that, then every year (or month) until you cancel. There's no minimum commitment.
Cancel any time, online, in one step. On stitchwing.com go to your account and press Cancel subscription; or use the cancel link in any renewal reminder or receipt; or email support@stitchwing.com. Cancelling stops future charges and you keep everything until the end of the period you've already paid for. We won't put a retention offer in your way.
Reminders. If you pre-ordered, we email you 7 days before your first renewal with the date, the amount and a cancel link. After that: for a yearly plan we email you 30 days before every renewal, with the date, the price and a cancel link. For a monthly plan, every receipt shows what you were charged and how to cancel, and we email you a reminder of your terms at least once a year.
Price changes. If the price of your plan changes, we email you between 7 and 30 days before it applies to you. You can cancel before it does.
Switching between Monthly and Yearly is done in your account; the charge is adjusted for the time left on your current plan.
If a payment fails, we email you and show a quiet banner in the app, and our payment processor tries again. You keep full access during the grace period shown in your plan terms while you sort your card out. If it still hasn't gone through after that, the subscription ends. Your pattern files are never affected.
Returning to Free. When a subscription ends, including cancellation at the end of the paid period or a failed payment after the grace period shown in your plan terms, you return to Free with Free editing and limits, unless you also own an edition outright, in which case you keep the features of that edition. A refund, revocation or paused/disputed license puts the paid tools and associated add-on packs on hold and returns you to Free with Free editing and limits. This applies when the app learns of the change. For an ordinary subscription end, paid editing tools already available inside an open chart remain available until you close and reopen that chart or restart the app; menus and output dialogs use your current license. A refund, revocation or dispute removes paid access even inside an open chart. Your files are not deleted or changed.
9. Templates
Templates are sold one at a time in the Template Store inside the app, at the price shown there. Buying a template unlocks that template. No plan includes templates — not free, not monthly, not yearly, not one-time — and anyone with an account can buy one, including free users.
The plain size shortcuts on the new-pattern screen (Baby, Throw, Twin, Queen, Custom and so on) aren't templates. They're free for everyone.
10. Refunds
Gifts follow the separate refund windows and process under Gifts below.
We'd rather you tried StitchWing before paying for it — the free version needs no card. If you do pay and it isn't right, this is how it works.
| What you paid for | Full refund within |
|---|---|
| One-time ("Own It") license | 30 days, no questions asked |
| A template | 30 days, no questions asked |
| A yearly charge, first or renewal | 30 days |
| A monthly charge | 7 days — for when you forgot to cancel |
For a pre-order, you can cancel for a full refund at any time before release. After release, the pre-order payment is non-refundable (see "Pre-orders"). Renewal charges after that follow the table above.
"It won't run on my computer." If StitchWing doesn't work properly on a computer that meets the stated requirements and we can't fix it, we'll refund you even after those windows, up to 90 days from purchase, or from your start date if you pre-ordered.
Outside those windows we don't normally refund, but write to us anyway. We read every one.
How to ask: email support@stitchwing.com from the address on your account. We refund what you actually paid, tax included, to the way you paid. Your bank decides how long it takes to appear.
What happens afterwards: the thing you were refunded for switches off the next time StitchWing checks in. A refunded subscription ends straight away. A refunded template locks for new editing. Every pattern you've made in StitchWing still opens, displays and prints — including patterns that used a refunded template or feature. Nothing you made is taken away.
We may decline a refund if we see fraud, or the same product being bought and refunded over and over. That's the only reason we'd say no inside the windows above.
This is in addition to your rights under the law where you live. It doesn't reduce them. And your purchase is covered by the refund terms in force on the day you bought, or by newer ones if they're better for you.
11. Chargebacks
Please talk to us before disputing a charge with your bank. We'll almost always just refund you, and it's faster for everyone.
If you do open a dispute: while it's open, your license is paused — StitchWing still opens, displays and prints your patterns made in StitchWing, but you return to Free with Free editing and limits, and paid tools and associated add-on packs are on hold, and we can't send you a separate refund because the card network's process decides the outcome. If the dispute is decided in our favour, your license comes back automatically. If it's decided in yours, we treat it as a refund.
12. Codes
This section covers discount and creator codes only. Paid gift codes follow Gifts below and do not expire.
- Discount and creator codes are entered on stitchwing.com before payment. One discount per order — if you qualify for more than one, we apply the lowest price automatically and tell you which one we used.
- Codes have no cash value, can't be applied to an order you've already placed, and may expire.
- For a subscription, a discount applies only to the period shown before you pay. The regular price after that is shown before you pay too.
12a. Gifts
Pay once for a specific plan, not a cash balance. A gift buys Monthly for the number of calendar months chosen by the giver within the range shown before payment, Yearly for 1 calendar year, or an Own It desktop license for the edition shown when you buy. The plan, term, price and refund window are shown before payment and kept with the order. A later price increase does not cost the recipient more to redeem that gift. Templates and graphics packs are sold separately. There is no gift free trial.
No renewal, no gift fees, no code expiry. Gift codes do not expire. We charge no activation, redemption, inactivity or maintenance fees. The giver pays once, in US dollars; any applicable sales tax and the total are shown at checkout. The recipient needs no payment details to redeem. A gift is not credit toward another product and cannot be reloaded or resold. This does not limit any legally required cash redemption or other consumer rights.
Sending and printing. The giver enters the recipient's name and email, a giver name, occasion, optional message, and delivery now or a chosen date, time and time zone. We schedule the email for that time, but the receiving email service can delay or reject it. After payment, the giver can download a Letter or A4 printable card from Your gifts. The printed card and email carry the same private, single-use code, including resends. The code can be redeemed as soon as payment is confirmed, even before a scheduled email. If it is redeemed before that email is sent, we skip the later delivery. Keep the code private: anyone holding it can redeem it in their own confirmed account; it is not restricted to the email address the giver entered. An unused code may be given to someone else. After redemption, the license belongs to the redeeming account and cannot be transferred.
When access starts. The recipient signs in or creates and confirms an account, checks the plan and dates, and presses Confirm to accept these gift terms and the License agreement. Prepaid access starts on redemption, or is added after the recipient's existing paid period and previously redeemed gift time. Calendar months use the last valid day of the month when necessary. An Own It gift keeps its purchased edition, rather than acquiring a newer edition just because it was redeemed later. A recipient who already owns Own It cannot redeem another Own It gift: leave that code unused to pass on, or ask the giver to request a refund.
A gift creates no subscription for either person. If the recipient already has a separately purchased subscription, it keeps its existing renewal choice; its billing is adjusted to put the gifted time after the current paid period. The giver cannot cancel that separate subscription. When gifted access ends, the account returns to Free unless another paid entitlement remains. The License agreement's file protections always apply.
Delivery changes and cancellation. The giver can change the recipient email or delivery time in Your gifts before sending begins, and resend while delivery details are still held and contact has not been stopped. For a wrong address, failed delivery or lost code, contact support@stitchwing.com. Support can stop a scheduled delivery before sending or redemption begins. Stopping delivery is separate from refunding the payment; request a refund if you want the purchase cancelled and your money back. Failed delivery does not start or shorten prepaid access.
Gift refunds. The giver may request a full refund any time before redemption, even after the email has been sent. After redemption, the refund window runs from redemption: 7 days for Monthly, including 3- and 6-month gifts, and 30 days for Yearly or Own It, or a longer window if shown when bought. Email support@stitchwing.com from the buying account's address; a recipient may also contact support about a gift problem. Support processes gift refunds. A giver's qualifying refund can end redeemed gift access; the refund process does not require the recipient's approval. It returns the amount paid, including tax, to the original payment method, rather than paying the recipient. Your bank decides when it appears. Legally required remedies remain available.
A refunded code can no longer be redeemed. Refunding a redeemed gift removes only that gift's access and adjusts remaining gift periods and related billing; separate purchases and the recipient's pattern files are not taken away. If payment is disputed or reversed, redemption or gift-funded access may be unavailable while its payment status is resolved. Contact us for help. The existing compatibility promises and your rights under the law still apply; these gift rules do not waive them.
Recipient privacy. We use the name, email and message only for gift delivery and administration, never to add the recipient to a marketing list. The giver receives delivery and redemption status notices, not the recipient's account email, activity or files. Privacy describes collection, retention and how to ask us to stop contact or delete unnecessary delivery details without creating an account.
These gift rules take priority over the ordinary automatic-renewal, pre-order, purchase-date refund and discount-code expiry rules where those would conflict. They do not reduce rights under the law where you live.
13. Delivery and keys
For a pre-order, delivery happens at release: your license key is emailed to you, it appears on your account page, and the download opens. Everything is delivered digitally. Your license key is emailed to you and appears on your account page, where you can see it in full and copy it. Keep it private — anyone with it can use your seats. If you'd rather have a new one, press "Get a new key by email" on your account page; the computers you're already using keep working.
License keys can't be resold.
14. Using this website
Don't try to break into the site, scrape it in bulk, hammer our servers, or interfere with anyone else's use of it. The StitchWing name, logo, words, images and designs on this site are ours; the open-source components we use are listed under Open-source notices and are covered by their own licenses.
15. Things you send us
Reviews anywhere else are up to you. You're free to review StitchWing anywhere, good or bad. Nothing in these terms stops you or penalises you for it.
Ideas and feature requests. If you send us a suggestion, you keep any rights you have in it. You give us a free, non-exclusive, permanent, worldwide permission to use it to improve StitchWing, and we don't owe you payment or credit for it.
Testimonials. If you send us a testimonial, the testimonial terms shown when you send it apply. In short: you must be 18 or over, you keep ownership, you give us non-exclusive permission to show it with the name you chose, we never change your words, we label it honestly, and you can have it taken down at any time. Privacy says what we keep and for how long.
Problem reports. A report is only sent when you press Send, and only with what you chose to include. Privacy sets out what's in one and when we delete it.
16. If something goes wrong
Please email support@stitchwing.com first — most things are fixed in one reply.
Apart from the promises we make on this page and in the License agreement, StitchWing and this website are provided as they are. To the fullest extent the law allows, we don't give other warranties, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or US$100. We set that floor deliberately above the price of every plan we sell, so the limit can never leave you with less than everything you paid us. We're not liable for indirect losses, lost profits, the cost of yarn or materials, or lost data. Please keep backups — StitchWing autosaves, but no software is perfect.
That limit doesn't apply to death or injury caused by our negligence, to fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or to anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit. Nothing on this page takes away a right your own consumer law gives you.
17. Which law applies, and where a disagreement goes
These terms are governed by the law of the United States and of the State of Maryland, where we're based, without applying its conflict-of-laws rules. If something can't be sorted out between us, it goes to the state or federal courts sitting in Maryland, and we both accept that as a proper place for it.
Two deliberate exceptions, because nobody should have to cross the country over a small charge:
- Small claims is always open to you. If your claim fits the small-claims court where you live, bring it there instead. We won't object to that.
- If you live in the EU, the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, nothing here takes away the protection of your own country's consumer law, or your right to bring a claim in the courts where you live.
There is no forced arbitration here, and no class-action waiver. We considered both and decided against them. On a product that costs less than a night out, a clause like that mostly exists to make complaining expensive, and we'd rather just answer the email.
18. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change reduces your rights in a way that matters, we'll email you or tell you in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect. Changes will never take away features you've already paid for, and never restrict what you may do with your own patterns. Changes to prices and plans are covered by "When prices or plans change" above. The version in force always shows its date at the top.
