Make your first chart
Start a blank chart in two clicks, or turn a photo into a chart. Every kind of project starts from the same screen.
The start screen
On Home, choose Use photo, Crochet, Knit, Cross stitch or Blank grid to start. Your recent charts sit along the bottom; choose See all patterns for the full list.
Choose Portrait on Home to open Portrait Studio (All Access). Check the preview and colors before making your chart.
StitchWing opens on What are you making? To come back to it later, choose File › New chart… (Ctrl+N), or press + beside your chart tabs.
Choose what you want to make:
- Crochet: blankets, C2C, tapestry, mosaic and filet charts.
- Knit: Fair Isle and intarsia colorwork.
- Cross stitch: then pick your fabric.
- From a photo: turn any picture into a chart in a few steps.
- Blank grid: beads, diamond painting and weaving, as well as the other chart crafts.
Under the cards, Recent shows the charts you worked on last. See all patterns shows all of them.
To remove a chart from Recent, use its More actions button (three dots) or right-click it. Clear Recent clears the list. The files stay on your computer, and Undo puts them back.
The list on the left has Home, Recent, Templates (if you own any), Template Store, Recovered (if work was kept after an unexpected close), Open a file and Bring in a PDF chart (paid plans).
Have a .PAT chart file from another program? Use File › Import a chart file.
Choose the kind and the size
After Crochet or Knit, StitchWing asks What kind of project? Blank grid asks What kind of chart? and lists every kind, grouped under Crochet, Knit, and Cross stitch, beads, diamond painting & weaving:
- Crochet: Corner to corner (C2C), Graphghan / pixel, Tapestry, Overlay mosaic, Inset mosaic, Filet, Tunisian colorwork, Granny square pixels.
- Knit: Fair Isle / stranded, Intarsia.
- Cross stitch, beads, diamond painting & weaving: Diamond painting, Bead loom / square stitch, Peyote stitch, Brick stitch, Weaving.
Then How big? offers plain sizes (for a crochet blanket: Baby, Throw, Twin, Queen), and Your chart shows how many stitches that makes.

Press Start blank for an empty chart, or Start from a photo to fill it from a picture.
