“This folder won’t let StitchWing save here”

What the save message means, who refused the save, and how to keep your changes.

Keep the chart open

Your changes are still in the open chart. Save them somewhere StitchWing can write before closing it. A recovery copy may be older than your latest work; check any recovery warning. See Recovery after an unexpected close.

What the message says now

StitchWing now names the chart and the folder: StitchWing can't save "your chart" in the folder. The second line says who refused:

  • Windows refused permission to write in that folder. Windows is protecting that folder. Press Save somewhere else… and choose a folder in your own account, like Documents.
  • StitchWing itself wasn't allowed to write there. That's a problem on our side, not your folder's settings. Press Try again. If it keeps happening, press Save somewhere else… and report the problem.

You'll only see the old wording, This folder won't let StitchWing save here, when StitchWing can't tell which folder it was.

A file changed outside StitchWing

File changed elsewhere means the file on disk has changed since this chart was opened or last saved. Load other version loads that version instead of your open version; stop tracking first, because loading is unavailable while Track progress is on. Keep mine chooses to save your open version over the changed file. Choose deliberately so you do not overwrite work you wanted to keep.

If Load other version cannot read or open the file, your version stays untouched and the conflict remains visible. A failed load is not permission to overwrite the other file. Try loading again after fixing the file problem, or use Save as… to keep your version separately.

Other save messages

  • Your computer is out of space, so we couldn't save. Free some space, then save again. Your work is still there.
  • We can't reach the folder where your chart is saved. A drive may have been unplugged. Plug it back in, or save the chart somewhere else.
  • Something went wrong on our side. Your chart is safe. Try again, and report the problem if it repeats.
