Open charts from other programs

Open .pat and .chart files. On the free version, imported charts above the size limit open to view only.

Open your chart

Use Open to choose a .pat or .chart chart file. Check the grid, colors and stitch details in the new pattern before using it. Your original file stays unchanged. StitchWing cannot save back to those formats. Use Save to keep a .stitchwing copy.

Notes come across from formats that carry them, including .PAT designer notes. A .chart file comes in as a graphghan. It arrives without designer details, copyright information or notes; StitchWing says so. Some .chart files are locked by the program that wrote them and cannot be opened.

On the free version

An imported chart above the free chart-size limit shows This chart is larger than the free version supports, with Upgrade or View only. View only lets you look and read its notes; you can’t edit, print, export, share or copy it, and a saved .stitchwing copy keeps that limit. Charts made in StitchWing still open to view and print above the limit.

Check what came across

If StitchWing says something was left out, compare the chart with your original before you start. Some files cannot be opened; read the message shown and check that you chose the right chart file.

Check half stitches against your original: some may arrive mirrored. Two halves meeting along one diagonal arrive as a whole stitch: it looks the same but counts as one stitch. StitchWing explains these changes on import.
