Pattern maker

Keep a garment in one file. Switch pieces, see the garment finished, and print one piece or the whole garment.

Make a garment

The pattern maker tool needs a paid plan. Its garments are StitchWing Premium Templates, bought separately in the app; each covers every shape on its card. Open Pattern maker from Home and choose Dress, Overalls, Skirts or Zip-Up Hood Hoodie alongside the existing garments. The tool needs a paid plan; garments are Premium Templates bought separately inside the pattern maker. Choose a garment to see its preview and purchase options. The hooded Cardigan remains Coming soon. Customers who paid before 1.0 keep the garments that were available then.

Then enter your measurements and gauge, and choose the colors for its parts. You get charts and written rows for the pieces. Crochet garments count stitches. Patterns you have already made from a garment always open, show and print.

Check the pattern and make a gauge swatch before you start. Measurements that leave a sleeve too tight are refused with an explanation, so you can check the measurements before making the pattern.

One garment, one file

A garment is one document in one tab. Use Save to keep it as one .stitchwing file. The pieces, finished garment and time-lapse stay together in that file. One saved garment counts as one saved pattern on the free version.

Use the Pieces row above the chart to switch between pieces. Each piece has its own undo history. Undo affects the piece you are editing.

Parts in Store designs

Parts switches for garments from Store designs are not available yet. You can still open, view and print these patterns. Support for changing their parts is deferred to a later update.

See the finished garment

Varsity jackets have Construction choices on the colors step: separate sleeve fronts and backs, a plain collar lining, a back neck band at the height you choose, pockets in small sizes, and the number, size and spacing of closures on children’s jackets. A sleeve’s front and back are two halves of one chart, so each sleeve prints once. The collar lining and the neck band get their own charts and yarn amounts. Make a neck facing deep enough to cover the plain area it hides. StitchWing checks that the closures fit the band; try your buttons or snaps on a sample to be sure they hold and fit. Garments saved before these choices arrived still open, show and print.

Draw on the chart the way the garment is worn: the top stays at the top, and upright lettering stays upright on the finished piece. Check the finished-garment preview and make a gauge swatch before stitching.

The finished garment shows the pieces together, front and back, drawn to scale. Sleeves, bands, collars and neckbands keep their real size. Click a piece to open its chart. Letters, clip art and pasted pictures show as crocheted patches in the finished view.

Watch the time-lapse of the garment coming together, or save it as a video. See See your chart finished.

Combine into one file

For garments saved as separate piece files in an earlier version, open a piece and press Combine in the banner. You can also choose File › Combine garment pieces… and pick the garment.

Combining opens a new garment in one tab. Save it when you are ready to make the new file. The old files are never changed or deleted. StitchWing tells you if a piece was not found or an older copy was left out.

Open Print / Export for a large page preview. Under What to export, choose Graph (chart), Written pattern or Graph + written pattern. Set Pattern size and Page setup; open More options & styling for the other choices. Choose Cancel to stop a large export while it prepares.

In Print / Export, choose every size to make one combined pattern. It shares sizing, matching charts and written rows, with each size’s numbers together. Choose Just my size for a single size.

Every-size export cannot yet include lettering, clip art, layers, backstitch or fractional stitches. Choose Just my size to print your design with those details.

Print / Export starts on This piece. Choose Whole garment to print all the pieces or save them together as one PDF. Materials and the color key appear once, with amounts added up across the pieces. A piece worked twice counts twice.

With Include notes on, notes follow the cover as plain-text pages. Identical notes print once. Pictures are saved one piece at a time with This piece. See Print a chart or save a PDF.
