Written row-by-row instructions

Open Instructions to read your chart row by row. Written instructions are part of the paid plans.

Follow along, or read the steps below. Turn captions on in the player if you want them.

Needs a paid plan.

Open them

Press Instructions in the side panel. Read the written rows shown for your chart. Check them before you start stitching.

Plain pieces

Plain pattern maker pieces and owned size templates can have rows even in one color. For a plain rectangle you have filled or edited, Instructions offers Write plain rows when it has stitches to work. Choose it to get written rows for that plain area. You can Undo this choice and Save keeps it with the chart.

A blank, untouched chart doesn’t offer it; fill it or draw first.

Abbreviations

Above the first row, a short Abbreviations list explains only the terms the pattern uses, in your US or UK terms. It’s folded to one line in the panel and printed before the first row unless you set the header to None.

Which crafts

Written instructions are available for C2C, graphghan, tapestry, filet, Tunisian colorwork, granny square pixels, stranded and intarsia knitting, bead loom, peyote, brick stitch and weaving.

Cross stitch and diamond painting are worked from the chart itself.

Mosaic: Color planning chart — mosaic stitch placement has not been checked. The designer supplies the mosaic conventions: overlay or inset, and which rows are worked in which color. StitchWing does not generate written mosaic rows.

Printing them

To put the written rows in your PDF or printout, choose written instructions in Print / Export. See Print a chart or save a PDF.
