Print a chart or save a PDF
Print / Export prints your chart and key, or saves them as a PDF or a picture.
Open Print / Export
Press Print / Export in the side panel, or choose File › Print / Export… (Ctrl+P).
Choose what goes in
Open Print / Export for a large page preview. Under What to export, choose Graph (chart), Written pattern or Graph + written pattern. Set Pattern size and Page setup; open More options & styling for the other choices. Choose Cancel to stop a large export while it prepares.
Tick the parts you want:
- Cover and pattern info
- Include notes: plain-text pages after the cover. This option appears when the chart has notes and starts on. Untick it to leave notes out. See Chart notes.
- Materials and color key (the skein and yardage figures on it come with the paid plans; the color key and stitch counts always print), with Lot numbers from My yarn when you keep dye lots (see How much yarn, and dye lots)
- Copyright and terms
- Chart pages
- Add black-and-white symbol sheets: a second set of the same chart in symbols, after your color pages
- Written instructions (paid plans; see Written row-by-row instructions)
Print a garment
For a pattern maker garment, Print / Export starts on This piece; see Pattern maker for whole-garment printing and every-size export.
Print or save
- Print… sends it to your printer.
- Save PDF… saves it as a PDF file.
- Save picture… saves the chart as a PNG picture (recommended for charts), and Save JPEG… as a JPEG.
Under Picture, Look chooses Chart or Finished look for the picture you save.
StitchWing tells you when it's done, names the file, and offers Show to find it.
If a page cannot be prepared
If StitchWing cannot prepare all your pages, it shows a message and does not start printing. Check the chart and try Print… again. If it keeps failing, report the problem.
What's free
A chart imported from another program above the free size limit is view only on the free version and can’t be printed or exported: see Open charts from other programs.
Your printouts and PDFs always use the chart's own colors, not your app theme.
